THANK YOU WENDY FOR YOUR VISIT!

Last Tuesday Martina brought a friend to the class.

Martina’s friend’s name was Wendy.

Wendy told us many interesting things about her life:

Wendy was from London, from Buckinghamshire.

Wendy met Martina at the hotel because (porque)Wendy was a customer.

They started talking and they became friends.

Martina wanted to practice her English.

Martina saw Wendy’s children grow up.

This wasn’t Wendy’s first time on the island.

Wendy came every year with her family.

In 2020 she couldn’t come because of the pandemic.

The airline didn’t give her the money back, instead (en vez de eso), she received/got a voucher.

And finally, she used the voucher two weeks ago.

She only spent half the money.

Wendy didn’t eat at a guachinche.

Wendy never ate at a guachinche.

Wendy has never eaten at a guachinche.

She has never tried gofio escaldado, toasted cereal flour with broth. Mmmmm, delicious!! Yuk, disgusting!!

She has never tasted typical Canarian food, she only tried papas arrugadas, boiled Canarian potatoes with a salty crust and a hot spicy sauce.

Patricia prefers savoury food, while (mientras que)Franmer prefers sweet food.

Nobody in the class “has a sweet tooth”. It’s a pity!

I don’t have a sweet tooth myself.

I do (sí que tengo) have a sweet tooth myself, actually (en verdad).

Wendy had a problem when she flew to Tenerife.

There was a big queue /kiú/ at the passport control, because the UK left the European Union.

She waited for two hours and a half.

Therefore (por lo tanto) / so (así que), she missed her flight.

She didn’t have any problems because of (debido a) the pandemic. She showed her Covid vaccination certificate and she could pass.

Coup /kú/ golpe de estado

Martina brought took Wendy to a guachinche after class.

Wendy loved the food!

Wendy’s daughter /dóta/ won the silver medal at the acrobatic gymnastics world championship, representing the UK’s national team. Wow! Can you believe it?

And that’s it. /andát-sit/ (y eso es todo)

CAN, COULD, WILL BE ABLE TO (PUEDO, PUDE, PODRÉ)

In April 2020, during the lockdown, we couldn't go to bars or restaurants, it was forbidden!

Now, in October 2021 we can go to bars and restaurants again, but we have to respect the social distance and if you don't eat or drink, you must wear a mask.

Hopefully, next summer we will be able to go to bars and restaurants without masks and without social distance. And we will be able to dance again!
